Report: AC Milan complete signing of centre-back Conte allegedly wanted at Spurs

According to CalcioMercato, AC Milan have now completed the signing of Lille centre-back Sven Botman, who was rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Singing a left-sided centre-back to compete with Ben Davies is reportedly a priority for Antonio Conte this summer, with Botman thought to be one of the names on the Italian’s wishlist (The Athletic).

The 22-year-old has matured at Lille since joining the Ligue 1 club from Heerenveen two years ago.

The Daily Star even claimed back in February that Spurs were ‘desperate’ to win the race for the Netherlands international, with Conte alleged to be a big fan of the centre-back.

However, over recent weeks, it has been reported that the North Londoners are set to prioritise a move for Villarreal’s Pau Torress over the Dutchman (Daily Mail).

If CalcioMercato’s latest update is to be believed, Botman is bound for the Serie A after Milan struck a deal with Lille for the centre-back.

The report claims that the Rossoneri will pay a fee of €30m (£25.3m) to the French club for the defender.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Botman is a particularly good fit for Conte’s back three. The Dutchman would be better suited to playing in a back four. That perhaps explains why Spurs have seemingly not pushed Milan for the 22-year-old. Conte might prefer the likes of Bastoni or Torres over the Dutchman.
