Report: AC Milan join the race to sign Spurs player on a free transfer

AC Milan have become the latest club to join the queue to try and sign Jan Vertonghen in the summer, according to reports.

The experienced defender has struggled to hit his usual high standards this season and has found himself in and out of the starting eleven.

Vertonghen’s contract with Tottenham runs out at the end of the campaign and there is no indication as of yet that he is going to sign a new deal.

The Belgian international was linked with a return to Ajax last month (De Telegraaf).

Now Calciomercatonews.com (as translated by Sempre Milan) report that AC Milan will also try and sign the defender when he becomes a free agent in the summer.

The report suggests the Italian giants have identified the 32-year-old as the man to fix their defensive problems and are keen on bringing him to Milan.

Additionally, the report also credits Juventus and Inter Milan with interest the player who made a late cameo off the bench against Aston Villa yesterday following Heung-min Son’s winner.

Spurs Web Opinion

Unless we see a drastic improvement in form from the Belgian international in the next couple of months, I just can’t see the club handing him anything more than a one-year extension at best. I believe he will likely leave Spurs at the end of the season as Ajax or AC Milan will probably be willing to offer him a two or three-year deal.
