Report: AC Milan set to push Tottenham for signature of free agent

According to a report from Cadena COPE (as relayed by Fichajes), AC Milan are currently leading the race to sign Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

The Daily Star (via TBR Football) claimed last week that Tottenham were looking to snap up Vazquez on a free transfer in the summer when his contract with Real Madrid runs out.

Spanish publication ABC then offered an update on the experienced winger’s contract situation, revealing that negotiations between the 29-year-old and Real Madrid have hit a roadblock, with the Spanish giants not prepared to offer the pay rise he is looking for.

There have been mixed responses from some Tottenham fans on social media to the rumours linking the North Londoners with Vazquez, with many suggesting that the Spanish international is not good enough while others believe he could be an upgrade on Matt Doherty if he is used as a right-back.

Cadena COPE have now also asserted that Vazquez has made his mind up to leave the Santiago Bernabeu when his contract runs out in the summer.

The report claims that AC Milan are poised to snap him up in the summer, with Paolo Maldini ‘more than convinced’ by the Real Madrid star.

Spurs Web Opinion

I fear that the main problem we will face this summer is trying to find buyers for players who are not in Mourinho’s plans. Not many clubs around Europe have money to throw around and we could thus find it difficult to get decent value for our fringe players.

Not only do we need to shift some deadwood in order to raise the funds required to bring in new players but we also have an issue with too many foreign-trained players in the squad which could potentially prevent us from going after some of our targets.
