Report: AC Milan set to try and beat Tottenham to centre-back signing

La Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed that AC Milan are now eyeing a move for Tottenham target Clement Lenglet.

Tottenham and Barcelona have been in talks over a deal for Lenglet since the start of the summer but it emerged on Wednesday that the Premier League side could face competition for the centre-back from Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr (Mundo Deportivo).

However, Sport later revealed that although the Saudi club were willing to meet Barca’s €15m (£13m) asking price for the Frenchman, which Spurs were not willing to do, the defender was prioritising a return to North London over a switch to the Middle East.

If Gazzetta’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs could not face competition from Italy for Lenglet’s services.

The report claims that Milan are looking for a defender to replace Matteo Gabbia, who left to join Villarreal on loan last month, with the Serie A side said to have identified the Barcelona star as a target.

It is alleged that Rosseneri value Lenglet’s experience and believe that they can sign the 28-year-old for just €10m (£8.6m).

Spurs Web Opinion

Barca appear to have got their wish of a bidding war for Lenglet’s signature. However, I doubt Milan would be in a position to pay anywhere near the salary that the Frenchman currently earns at Barca, which is why the player will likely favour a switch to Spurs.
