Report: Agent Jorge Mendes suggested Kane alternative to Man City

According to a report from The Athletic, Jorge Mendes proposed to Manchester City that they should abandon their pursuit of Harry Kane and try to sign Cristiano Ronaldo instead.

City continue to be heavily linked with a move for Kane but sources claimed earlier this week that Pep Guardiola’s men might need to cash in on some of their fringe players in order to meet Tottenham’s valuation of the striker.

Additionally, rumours have suggested over recent days that City have entered the race for Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic, who is also alleged to be on Tottenham’s radar.

However, The Athletic have now revealed that Vlahovic is not a target for City, with the club’s full attention on competing for a deal for Harry Kane.

The report reveals that Mendes’ proposal to snap up Cristian Ronaldo was dismissed by the Premier League champions, who remain determined to sign the England captain.

It is asserted that City will try ‘until the end of the window’ to close a deal for the 28-year-old.

The only reason I believe that a deal for Kane could still be on the cards is because of the fact that City have not moved for any alternatives.

However, it will be difficult for Spurs to replace the England captian if he leaves at this stage of the transfer window unless the Lilywhites already have a couple of deals in the backburner which they are confident can be completed quickly.
