Report: Ajax could make move for Spurs star this summer

According to a report from Voetbal Krant, Ajax could make a move for Toby Alderweireld in the summer.

Alderweireld, much like the rest of the defenders at Tottenham, has not had the best of campaigns so far and has found himself in and out of the side.

Reports indicated that the Belgian did not have the best of relationships with former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho.

However, the 32-year-old has started both matches alongside Eric Dier in central defence since Ryan Mason was installed as interim boss last week.

Rumours now suggest that this could be Alderweireld’s last season in North London, with Ajax considering re-signing the defender.

The Tottenham star joined the Eredivisie giants’ youth set up back in 2004 and went on to make 186 appearances for the club before signing for Atletico Madrid in 2013.

It was reported previously that PSV Eindhoven were showing interest in Alderweireld and Voetbal Krant have now backed up the claim that PSV are thinking about moving for the central defender.

The report adds that Ajax are aware of their rivals’ interest in their former player are now also considering making a move for Alderweireld.

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite the fact that Alderweireld has two years left on his contract, I would not be surprised to see Spurs cash in on him this summer. The Belgian has clearly been on the wane over the last couple of years and his market value is likely to drop considerably in another 12 months.
