Report: Ajax emerge as front-runners for Spurs-linked winger

According to a report by Soccer Nigeria, Ajax have expressed an interested in signing Paul Mukairu, who is also said to be on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar.

Mukairu is currently on a season-long loan at Anderlecht from the Turkish side Antalyaspor with the Belgian club having the option to sign the winger on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old has put in a number of impressive displays for Anderlecht this campaign, scoring four goals and registering four assists so far.

The Sunday Mirror (21/2; page 67), reported last month that Spurs were in pole position to land the Nigerian at the end of the season with the wide man expecting to cost around £4m.

Soccer Nigeria claims that the race for Mukairu’s signature is hotting up with Tottenham facing competition from the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and AS Roma.

However, the report suggests that it is Ajax who have stolen a march on the other clubs vying for the Anderlecht star.

One of Mukairu’s representatives is quoted in the report as saying: “Ajax are interested in Paul.

“He is a highly technical player who will fit the Ajax style.

“He is not yet the finished article and Ajax would be a great club for him to continue with his development.

“It will also be a chance for the player to feature in the Champions League season after season.”
