Report: Ajax enter race for heavily linked Spurs target

Ajax have entered the race alongside Tottenham and Everton for the former Southampton captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

According to Voetbal International, the Dutch side are hoping to steal a march on the Premier League pair with the ability to offer the Dane the possibility to play Champions League football next season.

Hojbjerg has openly admitted he sees himself playing his football at a higher level than Southampton which led to the Saints stripping him of the captaincy on the south coast (Speaking to Viaplay, as relayed by Danish publication B.T, ).

Spurs have been reported long-term admirers of the 24-year-old who has entered the last 12 months of his contract but the North Londoners now appear face serious competition to land the midfielder.

The midfielder used to work with the current Ajax manager, Erik Ten Haag during his time in the Bayern Munich reserve side but it is expected that Spurs will fight to secure the services of the 24-year-old.

Spurs are looking to strengthen their defence and in doing so Jose Mourinho is hoping to add the holding midfielder to his ranks.

It seems Hojbjerg is top of Tottenham’s current transfer list with no centre-back really looking like a concrete target. If this is the case, Spurs cannot afford to wait about when the transfer window opens with a few suitors looking to sign the Dane.
