Report: Ajax midfielder snubs Spurs for European giant

Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek has rejected approaches from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in favour of a move to Real Madrid.

Spanish news outlet Marca claims that Los Blancos have been the front runners in the race for Van de Beek’s signature since last summer and came close to completing the deal before the start of the season.

The Dutch international was linked heavily with a move away from Amsterdam last summer which included Tottenham after enjoying an impressive 2018/19 campaign for Ajax in which he helped them to a domestic double (The Mail).

Some reports indicated that Spurs might return for Van de Beek in January but the report in Marca claims that the 22-year-old will finish the season at Ajax and sign for Madrid at the end of the current campaign.

Marca also relays a report by Dutch publication De Telegraaf that suggests that the midfielder will join the Spanish giants on a €55 million deal in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

It looks like we never stood a chance of landing Van de Beek as he was always likely to go to Madrid. It is a shame as I believe the Dutch international would have been the perfect replacement for Christian Eriksen. Hopefully, Lo Celso will get more game time in the second half of the season and show what he can produce.
