Report: Ajax player heads shortlist to replace soon-to-be out of contract star

According to a report by 90min, Tottenham Hotspur have drawn up a four-man shortlist to replace Christian Eriksen in January.

The Dane is into the final year of his contract with the club and the report claims that Spurs will let him leave in January should they receive an acceptable offer.

Tottenham’s primary target to replace Eriksen is said to be Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech, who has been impressing at the Dutch giants for the past couple of seasons.

Ziyech helped Ajax win the domestic double in Holland last season and also played a crucial role in their journey to the Champions League semi-finals. where he found the back of the net in the second leg against Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

It is claimed that Spurs are currently investigating how much it would cost to lure him away from the Eredivisie champions with Daniel Levy reportedly ready to spend big on him in January.

If Spurs fail with their move for Ziyech, it is claimed that they have lined up Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes, Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini, and Celta Vigo’s Brais Mendez as alternatives.

Spurs Web Opinion

It does look like Eriksen is bound to leave in January as the club would want to lose him for nothing in summer. If it is the case that he is leaving in two months and that Spurs are looking at replacements, then one really does wonder the logic of Eriksen continuing to get so much game time despite his poor form.
