Report: Ajax reject £17m bid for rumoured Tottenham target

Tottenham Hotspur have struggled at right-back for some time now, with the club failing to sign a replacement for Kieran Trippier after he was sold last summer.

Serge Aurier has upped his game under Jose Mourinho, but after Kyle Walker-Peters was loaned out to Southampton in the January window, he remains Tottenham’s sole natural option.

Back in October, Spurs were linked with 19-year-old Ajax right-back, Sergino Dest, who is enjoying a superb season in the Netherlands this year (Bleacher Report).

The teenager already has 28 appearances to his name across all competitions this season, as well as two goals and six assists (TransferMarkt).

It has now been claimed that Ajax have turned down a £17m bid from Bayern Munich for the reported Spurs target, with the Dutch club holding out for £25m (De Telegraaf).

Spurs Web Opinion:

Spurs have a number of players who can cover at right-back, but makeshift options are no good at the top level. A club of Spurs’ stature should have at least two senior right-backs capable of rotating. I would argue that Tottenham should invest in a young up-and-coming player in the summer, such as Dest.
