Report: Rumoured Spurs target rejects offers from England in favour of La Liga move

CalcioMercato claim Franck Kessie is set for a move to Barcelona after being convinced of the switch by Xavi, despite reported interest from Tottenham.

Kessie’s contract with AC Milan is due to expire at the end of the season (Transfermarkt) and things are pointing in the direction of the midfielder leaving the club as a free agent.

Milan News reported last month that Tottenham were leading the chase for the Ivorian and presented the most convincing offer for a potential transfer.

Meanwhile, Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari stated in January that Barcelona had reached a verbal agreement to sign Kessie in June, though nothing has progressed since.

Calciomercato now hint the 25-year-old is on the verge of transferring to the Nou Camp this summer, with the Blaugrana ready to finalise a move.

The report mentions that Kessie had received more lucrative salary offers from England, but those were snubbed by the player after speaking to Barca manager Xavi, who persuaded him of the move to La Liga.

Kessie has made 29 appearances in all competitions this season for Milan, who currently sit atop the Serie A table (Transfermarkt).

Now it seems as if Barcelona have pushed ahead with landing Kessie on a free transfer. If Spurs really wanted him, though, then they would have made their presence known and made a big offer themselves.

Ultimately, it looks like he was set on a move to Barca after speaking to Xavi, so there isn’t much other clubs could have done if that was the player’s decision.
