The signing of Radu Dragusin this month largely went ahead thanks to the persistence of Ange Postecoglou, who made it very clear to the Tottenham Hotspur board that this was a player he needed as part of his project.
Heading into the New Year, it was clear that Tottenham needed a new centre-back as a priority, particularly with the absence of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven being felt throughout the squad.
It became apparent early in the month that Radu Dragusin was the answer to that problem for Spurs. However, what seemed to be a simple transaction ended up becoming complicated due to Bayern Munich’s interest in the 21-year-old.
Ultimately, Dragusin chose Tottenham over the German giants, and it is thought he made that call based on the fact he felt more wanted by the North London side and their manager, Ange Postecoglou (GSP via Sport Witness).
Postecoglou is believed to have spoken to Dragusin prior to the move to tell him exactly where he would fit into his Tottenham project (Football.London).

Postecoglou pushed for Dragusin deal
Now, it has emerged that Postecoglou was not only the one to convince Dragusin to join, but also pushed the club to make the signing, too. That’s according to a report from The Sun, which claims the Australian insisted the player was signed this month, rather than waiting until the summer.
While Dragusin’s former club, Genoa, “were happy to do a quick deal” to sell the defender, it is believed Tottenham “would have held on for longer.” However, the move was ultimately made, as Postecoglou “wanted him so much.”

I’m so glad that Postecoglou seems to have considerable sway when it comes to getting what he wants at the club, and deservedly so. For years we have been asking the board to back the manager, but it’s more than that, they need to actually trust the manager completely, and it seems that’s happening now.
