Report: Antonio Conte could be interviewed during half-time from next season

The Daily Mail have revealed that all Premier League managers and their coaching staff could be interviewed at half-time from next season, as per the new proposals that have been sent to the clubs.

Post-match interviews and press conferences can certainly get quite fiery, given that the players’ and managers’ emotions are usually still raw.

We have already seen Antonio Conte make some knee-jerk statements after defeats this season, with the Italian even stating after Tottenham’s loss at Turf Moor in February that he might not be the right man to turn the club around (Football.London).

The Mail have now revealed that managers and members of their coaching staff could give interviews during the half-time break next season as part of live broadcasts.

All Premier League sides are reportedly set to vote on the proposal in the annual general meeting in June.

It is explained that each manager would be interviewed at half-time no more than five times over the course of the season and that those whose sides are losing would not be approached.

Such interviews are expected to take place at the beginning or end of the half-time break, with the idea said to have been given a warm reception by media departments throughout the top flight.

This is certainly not ideal and I suspect many managers across the division would not be in favour of the proposal.

However, I expect the proposal to be passed if broadcasters are keen as it would likely translate to higher broadcast income for clubs in the long term.

These kinds of interviews are already commonplace in many sports and given that football is moving towards more fan access, these changes are inescapable.
