Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Antonio Conte is keen to recreate a key partnership from his title-winning Inter Milan side by pairing Alessandro Bastoni with Ivan Perisic on the left-hand side at Tottenham.

Perisic became Spurs’ first signing of the summer transfer window, with the Croat arriving on the back of two excellent campaigns at left wing-back with Inter.

According to reports over recent days, Bastoni is Tottenham’s number one target for the left centre-back role (Football.London), with the Nerazzurri expected to sanction the 23-year-old’s sale if they receive a suitable offer for him this summer (Daniele Longo).

Gold has now explained that it was on Conte’s instructions that Tottenham moved quickly to snap up Perisic and the Italian is now keen to get Bastoni on board so the team can benefit from the strong partnership the pair have forged down Inter’s left-hand side over the past couple of years.

The journalist adds that Spurs also view Bastoni as someone who can play in the centre of the back three if needed along with his natural position of left centre-back.

In addition to Bastoni and Perisic understanding each other’s games very well, the fact that they are both well-versed with Conte’s system should, in theory, help them hit the ground running at Spurs. It does seem like Tottenham believe they can get the Bastoni deal over the line, given Inter’s current financial predicament.
