Report: Antonio Conte is ‘tempted’ to take first job since Spurs after ‘extraordinary offer’

Multiple outlets in Italy are now reporting that Napoli have made an offer to sign Antonio Conte and that the former Tottenham boss is seriously considering taking the job.

Conte has been out of the game for the past year since leaving Tottenham in quite acrimonious circumstances in March of 2023, with the Italian delivering an extraordinary rant against the Spurs players after the 3-3 draw against Southampton (ESPN).

The Italian has been linked with a few jobs over recent months, with some outlets even suggesting that he is one of the contenders to replace Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich at the end of the season (Football Italia).

Napoli send offer to Antonio Conte

CalcioNapoli24 have now revealed that Napoli have turned towards Conte, with the club’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis said to be making a huge effort to bring him to the club.

It is alleged that the former Spurs boss is the one ‘chosen’ by De Laurentiis, who wants to ‘relaunch’ last season’s Serie A winners with a world-renowned coach after their struggles this campaign.

This information is also backed up by journalist Emmanuele Cammaroto, who has explained that Napoli have made Conte an offer of €8m (£6.8m) per season, which the 54-year-old is now considering taking over at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

He told Napoli Magazine (as relayed by Sport Witness): “De Laurentiis, it appears, would be ready to make an extraordinary offer for Conte, €8m, with the option for a third season in which the salary could then rise by around €400-500k.

“On the bonus table to the achievement of the objectives but above all carte blanche on the market, the keys to the locker room and the sharing in the introduction of the final indication for the appointment of the sporting director.

“Conte thinks about it, he is strongly tempted. Clear and precise signals are arriving in this direction. At present, a refusal would be much more surprising than a possible yes.”

This project could appeal to Conte, given that Serie A is a familiar hunting ground for him.

The former Spurs boss also likes working with a big budget and if De Laurentiis has promised him that, the Italian coach will look at this as an opportunity to build another title-winning side and rebuild his reputation.
