Report: Antonio Conte pushing board to snap up defender – Spurs in the race

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are now back in the race to sign Antonio Rudiger, with Antonio Conte pushing the club to land the Chelsea star.

Rudiger is expected to leave Stamford Bridge when his contract runs out in the summer (Sky Sports), with previous reports indicating that Spurs are one of the clubs to have shown interest in the centre-back (The Football Terrace).

However, it subsequently emerged that the 28-year-old does not want to join Chelsea’s rivals and would prefer a move abroad (Fabrizio Romano).

Football Insider have now claimed that while Tottenham had fallen behind the likes of Barcelona in the race for Rudiger, the North London club have now once again emerged as contenders.

It is explained that this is because Conte is keen to reunite with the centre-back and is ‘pushing hard’ for the club to meet the player’s contract demands.

The report adds that how far Tottenham push could be a major test of Levy’s ambition.

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite the numerous reports saying otherwise, I am just not convinced that Rudiger is a realistic target for Spurs.

I do not see the 28-year-old risking destroying his Chelsea legacy by moving to Tottenham, especially when he has so many options.

I suspect Rudiger and his entourage are using Tottenham’s interest to negotiate a more lucrative contract elsewhere.
