Report: Arsenal and Chelsea ‘would like’ Spurs’ rumoured top centre-back target

Croatian news publication, Index have reported that Arsenal and Chelsea would love to have RB Leipzig central defender Josko Gvardiol in their ranks.

This comes after the centre-back was labelled as Tottenham’s top summer target by the Daily Mail, as Antonio Conte looks to reinforce his back line in North London.

The 20-year-old is allegedly now ahead of both Sven Botman and Pau Torres on Tottenham’s wishlist, and he has experience both in the centre and at left-back. This could come in handy with Conte playing a back three system with a left-centre-back role.

Spurs have been playing a back three of Eric Dier, Cristian Romero, and Ben Davies of late, with Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez on the bench, as well as Japhet Tanganga out injured.

The Index report claimed: ‘A little over a month ago, he turned just 20, and already this week all the media are buzzing about fabulous figures that could pay off at the expense of his compensation.

‘Chelsea, Arsenal, Juventus and almost all European greats would like to have our national team player Joško Guardiola in their ranks, a guy who has just passed his teenage years and is already the target of the biggest European clubs.’

Spurs Web Opinion:

Gvardiol is already playing to a high standard at a tender age of 20 and could represent both an upgrade to the current squad, and an investment for the future. Tottenham need a new left-centre-back and he could be the perfect addition.
