Report: Arsenal and Newcastle join Spurs in race for 27-year-old midfielder

French publication Jeunes Footeaux have revealed that Arsenal and Newcastle United have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso.

Tottenham are expected to be in the market for a central midfielder when the transfer window reopens in January (according to Fabrizio Romano).

Since Antonio Conte’s arrival, Spurs have been linked with several Serie A midfielders including the likes of Marcelo Brozovic, Franck Kessie and Weston McKennie.

Tolisso is another name who has been mooted as a target for the North Londoners, with Fabio Paratici alleged to have made contact with the player’s entourage over a potential move in January.

Sky Germany revealed last week that the 27-year-old was expected to leave the Allianz Arena on a free transfer when his contract runs out in the summer.

Jeunes Footeaux have now also claimed that the French international will not be renewing his contract with Bayern Munich.

However, the report explains that competition is heating up for Tolisso’s signature ahead of January.

While Spurs and Inter Milan are mentioned as the two leading contenders for the Bayern man, Arsenal and Newcastle are said to have enquired about the midfielder’s availability recently.

I can see why there would be a lot of interest in Tolisso, particularly given that he would be available on a cut-price deal. The 27-year-old’s versatility and experience will make him a very useful squad player.

However, I am not convinced that he would walk into our starting lineup. I would rather see us go all out for someone like Franck Kessie, who would be an upgrade over the options we have in midfield.
