Report: Arsenal are increasingly likely to challenge Spurs for striker target

Journalist Rudy Galetti has revealed that Tottenham target Santiago Gimenez is now emerging as one of the top names on Arsenal’s wishlist ahead of the summer transfer window.

Gimenez is having another prolific season at De Kuip, with 24 goals to his name across all competitions so far and the striker is now being backed to leave the Eredivisie to make a move to a bigger club this summer.

Various sources over the last month have claimed that Tottenham are keen on landing the Mexican, with CaughtOffside even suggesting that the Lilywhites are confident of winning the race for the player.

It was reported by Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) last week that Spurs may face competition from the Serie A for the 23-year-old, with Napoli and AC Milan also said to hold an interest in the striker.

Arsenal could enter race with Spurs for Santiago Gimenez

Galetti has now taken to social media to confirm that Tottenham have approached Gimenez but he revealed that the centre-forward is also one of the names on Arsenal’s radar.

He claimed that the Gunners are keen on signing a number nine this summer and that the Feyenoord star is now ‘climbing positions’ in their wishlist.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not particularly sold on the idea of signing Gimenez as not only do I not think he would be a great fit for Postecoglou’s system but the jury is also very much out on whether he would be able to translate his goalscoring exploits to the Premier League.
