Report: Arsenal are now ‘pushing hard’ to sign rumoured Tottenham target

French publication Media Foot report that Arsenal have now stepped up their pursuit of Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta, who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

The Evening Standard reported last week that Tottenham are on the lookout for a playmaker this summer. Alasdair Gold revealed last month that Paqueta is one of the options that Antonio Conte has his eye on (Football.London).

According to L’Equipe’s recent update, the Brazilian has asked to leave the Groupama Stadium this summer, and Lyon would be willing to cash in on him if they receive a sufficient offer.

Media Foot have now revealed that several clubs have tried to sign Paqueta over recent months and, while some have got the green light from Lyon, the player has rejected those advances.

This is why Arsenal are now allegedly keen on convincing the 24-year-old before opening talks with Lyon.

Paqueta is said to be ‘listening’ and ‘attentive’ to the Gunners, who are willing to ‘push hard’ to land the attacking midfielder this summer.

The report adds that a deal for the Brazil international can be concluded ‘quickly’ this summer if an interested club is ready to offer €50m (£42.3m).

Spurs Web Opinion

While Paqueta was rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar previously, the recent reports coming out of France have only mentioned Arsenal and Newcastle as interested clubs.

So, it remains to be seen if the Brazilian is a top target for Spurs. I have a strong suspicion that Paratici will go in for Weston McKennie during the final weeks of the transfer window.
