Report: Arsenal are ready to challenge Tottenham for 22-year-old striker

According to a report in L’Equipe, Arsenal are now ready to challenge Tottenham Hotspur in their pursuit of Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.

Over the last two months, Spurs Web has brought to you various reports which have talked up the chances of Tottenham making a move for Gimenez in January.

The most confident of those claims was made by The Mirror on October 29, with the outlet stating that the Lilywhites are convinced that the prolific Mexican is the ideal option to fill Harry Kane’s shoes.

However, last week, TEAMtalk revealed that Mauricio Pochetitno had demanded to the Chelsea hierarchy that they hijack Tottneham’s move for the Feyenoord star.

Arsenal enter race with Spurs for Santiago Gimenez

It looks like Spurs could now face competition from another of their London rivals, with L’Equipe reporting that Arsenal have also set their sights on Gimenez.

The report claims that Mikel Arteta is keen on adding a centre-forward to his squad in January and has identified the 22-year-old as his top target.

The publication adds that the Gunners are set to go head-to-head with Spurs for Gimenez, with Ange Postecoglou’s men said to have scouted the player extensively, but there is no mention of Chelsea’s interest in the report.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that Gimenez is continuing to rack up goals at an absolutely phenomenal rate for Feyenoord, it is perhaps not surprising to learn that the queue for his signature is growing by the day as we get closer to the January transfer window.
