Report: Arsenal are ‘serious’ about trying to sign ex-Tottenham star

Arsenal are serious about trying to sign ex-Tottenham right-back Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid (EuroSport).

The report states that Arsenal have held discussions over potentially signing the 30-year-old after Hector Bellerin has pushed for a move away.

The Spanish club’s price tag for the full-back is said to be around £34m but Mikel Arteta’s side are not willing to meet that. However, Arsenal do want to structure a bid that Atleti could potentially accept.

The move would be highly controversial given the right-back’s previous allegiances with Tottenham but the report does say he would prefer a move to Manchester United.

The 30-year-old played 114 times in all competitions for Spurs after he signed from Burnley in 2015.

After some bad form, he left to join Athletico Madrid where he has only seen success. The right-back won La Liga last season and played a big role too – making 28 appearances.

However, Trippier’s future at the Spanish club is up in the air and it is yet to be seen whether he will leave this summer.

Despite some patchy form towards the end, Trippier is looked at fondly for his time at Spurs. That would certainly change if he joined Arsenal. But from an outside point of view, it looks unlikely. Trippier is currently at a top, top club and Arsenal are not that.
