Report: Arsenal boss Unai Emery gets one over Mauricio Pochettino

Arsenal look set to get one over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer market.

Spanish news outlet AS report that Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos is close to joining the Gunners on loan for the 2019/20 season which will not include an option to make the deal permanent following the conclusion of the campaign.

Arsenal boss and fellow Spaniard Unai Emery is said to have played a key part in convincing the 22-year-old to make the move to the Emirates.

Tottenham Hotspur had been heavily linked with a move for the player who impressed during Spain’s successful European Under-21 Championship campaign this summer.

Ceballos had found his first team opportunities limited at Los Blancos last season having started just 13 matches in La Liga and has been unable to secure a regular role in the side following the return of Zinedine Zidane as manager (Metro).

Spurs were previously said to have been leading the race to land the former Real Betis player, but it now looks as if he will be lining up against them instead next season (AS).

Opinion

Madrid’s willingness to do business with Arsenal for a player which Spurs had interest in will certainly not sit right with the hierarchy in N17 and who knows, it could have significant consequences for any talks relating to Christian Eriksen.
