Report: Arsenal complete double transfer of two Spurs-linked players

Tottenham’s North London rivals, Arsenal have announced the signings of William Saliba from Saint-Etienne and Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid (BBC).

According to Metro, Arsenal paid £27m including add-ons for Saliba, who has now been loaned back to Saint-Etienne for the duration of the 19/20 season.

The 18-year-old broke into the Ligue 1 club’s first team last season and surprised people with the maturity and composure he displayed.

The French Under-20 international was also reportedly being tracked by Spurs (The Sun).

Ceballos meanwhile joins on a season-long loan deal but the Gunners do not have the option to buy him at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old found playing time hard to come by after the arrival of Zinedine Zidane last season but was one of the stand out players of Spain’s successful Euro U-21 Championship campaign this summer.

AS reported a few days ago that Unai Emery’s promise of helping Ceballos to fulfill his aim of playing 40 games next season convinced him to snub Tottenham in favour of Arsenal.

The fact that the loan deal for Ceballos came without an option to buy indicates that Spurs were perhaps wise not to go down that road. As far as Saliba is concerned, while there is no doubt that he is a talented prospect, Arsenal are also in desperate need of more short term reinforcements in defence for the upcoming season.
