Report: Arsenal considering making offer for 18-year-old Spurs-linked starlet

Sport have revealed that Arsenal are now ready to push ahead with an offer for Royal Antwerp starlet Arthur Vermeeren, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Vermeeren established himself as a mainstay in Antwerp’s midfield last season and has begun the new campaign in fine form, with five assists and a goal in 15 appearances across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

90min reported a couple of weeks ago that the central midfielder is on the radar of several Premier League clubs, including Spurs and Arsenal, ahead of the January transfer window.

Arsenal pushing ahead with a move for Vermeeren

Sport have now suggested that the Gunners are ready to step up their interest in the teenager.

The report primarily focuses on Barcelona’s interest in Vermeeren, explaining that the Catalan club consider the player an ‘interesting’ option, with the scouts having been impressed by the youngster’s good ball delivery and defensive acumen.

However, the outlet adds that the La Liga giants are aware that they might lose out on the Antwerp star as Arsenal ‘are considering advancing’ an operation to sign him for €15m (£13m).

The report states that Mikel Arteta’s men are keen to reinforce their midfield in January and are convinced that Vermeeren would adapt to their side without any problems.

The publication adds that the Belgian international expects to leave his boyhood club either in January or next summer.

Since Postecoglou’s arrival in the summer, Tottenham have evidently tweaked their transfer strategy and are keeping close tabs on the best-emerging talents as evidenced by the acquisitions of Veliz and Vuskovic. So, one would expect the Lilywhites to vie for the signing of Vermeeren if he is on the market.
