Report: Arsenal contact winger’s agents after he was offered to Tottenham

The Daily Mirror have claimed that Arsenal have contacted the representatives of Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio, who is said to have been offered to Tottenham.

It was reported ahead of the January transfer window that Asensio was on Spurs’ radar, with Madrid allegedly valuing him at around £43m (Daily Express) but the winger stayed put at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Mirror have now revealed that the Spain international, who has 12 months left to run on his contract in Madrid, has been offered a new deal.

However, Asensio is said to be reluctant to put pen on paper as he is not happy with the terms of the contract offered.

The report explains that Los Blancos fear the winger wants to leave for free next year and are thus considering cashing in on him this summer.

The reigning European champions have allegedly offered Asensio to both Spurs and AC Milan but it is Arsenal who have expressed an interest in the player.

The Mirror claim that the Gunners have spoken to the 26-year-old’s representatives over a move to the Emirates.

The report adds that Arsenal not being in the Champions League is not a deal-breaker for Asensio but the winger wants guarantees of the regular game at the club.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect that like Adama Traore, Conte might have been looking to convert Asensio into a wing-back (on the left side), which is probably why Spurs showed interest in the 26-year-old during January. I do not think the Spaniard would be on our radar this summer, especially since we have snapped up Perisic.
