Report: Arsenal could now enter the race for heavily-linked Tottenham target

The Daily Mirror have now claimed that Arsenal could enter the race to sign rumoured Tottenham target James Maddison this summer.

James Maddison‘s days at Leicester City appear to be numbered irrespective of whether the Foxes go down or stay up, with the midfielder having just one year left on his deal at the King Power Stadium (Transfermarkt).

Football Insider reported two weeks ago that Spurs remain determined to sign the England international this summer and are set to make a ‘huge push’ to do so.

The report alleged that the North London club were ready to pay the £60m that it would take to snap up the 26-year-old.

The outlet added that the Lilywhites’ main competition for Maddison is set to come from Newcastle United, with Eddie Howe said to have asked the Magpies hierarchy to prioritise a deal for the Leicester man.

However, if The Mirror’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs could also face competition from their fierce rivals, Arsenal, for the Leicester star’s signature.

The report explains that Mikel Arteta wants to revamp his midfield during the summer transfer window, with Maddison being one of the names on the Gunners’ radar.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is difficult to see how Spurs could beat the likes of Newcastle and Arsenal to Maddison’s signature, given that we do not have Champions League football to offer the midfielder.

The Lilywhites would need to convince the England international that their project is an ambitious one and that they aim to be competing for major honours over the coming years.
