Report: Arsenal enter race to sign rumoured Spurs target

Tottenham Hotspur’s North London rivals Arsenal are said to have entered the race to sign highly-rated Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare (Daily Mail).

The Ligue 1 player has also been linked with a move to Tottenham in recent weeks (Jeunes Footeaux).

The report suggests that new Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster the Gunners midfield with the acquisition of Soumare.

The Frenchman has been impressive at the heart of Lille’s midfield this season and his displays in Ligue 1 and the Champions League have reportedly attracted the interest of several big hitters.

Apart from Spurs and Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the 20-year-old (Sky Sports).

The report by the Daily Mail goes on to report that while Soumare is likely to leave Lille this month, the French club are keen to hold on to him until the 26th of January when they face PSG.

Spurs Web Opinion

While there seems to be considerable interest in Soumare, hopefully, his relationship with Joao Sacramento will give Spurs an advantage in this race. It is clear that we do need another defensive midfielder but I am not so sure Levy will be ready to sanction another big-money signing after shelling out a huge amount on Ndombele in the summer.
