Report: Arsenal ‘firm favourites’ to land Spurs target with talks planned next week

Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Raphinha looks to have taken yet another twist with Arsenal set to itensify their pursuit of the Brazilian winger, according to The Athletic.

The report claims that Tottenham’s first choice remains Richarlison, while Chelsea who have also been linked with the 25-year-old are instead putting their energy into a deal to bring Raheem Sterling to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City.

There is said to be an acceptance from the other clubs who have been keen on the Leeds United player that Arsenal are favourites to land him.

Arsenal are believed to have pencilled in further talks with Raphinha’s representatives next week, with the player also open to the prospect of moving to the Emirates.

Tottenham desperately need a creative outlet in midfield who can also chip in with goals from the middle of the park. Firstly, the club appear to have moved on from their interest in Christian Eriksen and are now doing the same with Raphinha.

Richarlison will score goals, but Antonio Conte’s side still have too much of a reliance on Harry Kane to pull the strings. If the England captain is injured or off form, there is no other candidate who can unlock a defence with a pass, which is a great concern, even despite the fact we are still in the early days of the window.

Do Spurs fans dare to admit that they are looking over their shoulder in terms of the business that Arsenal are doing considering Raphinha and Gabriel Jesus could be lining up in the final third of their side next season? It’s over to you Fabio Paratici…
