Report: Arsenal have £25.7m offer rejected for Spurs-linked centre-back

According to The Athletic, Arsenal’s opening offer for rumoured Tottenham target Lisandro Martinez has been rejected by Ajax.

Tottenham are expected to spend big on a left-sided centre-back this summer, with the likes of Alessandro Bastoni, Pau Torres, Clement Lenglet and Josko Gvardiol thought to be on the club’s radar (Football.London).

90min reported last week that Spurs also have their eye on Martinez, who has been a revelation since leaving South America to join Ajax back in 2019.

The 24-year-old, who can also play at left-back and in midfield, was also said to be of interest to the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle, Inter Milan and Barcelona.

The Athletic have now revealed that the Gunners have seen an offer of €30m (£25.7m) for Martinez turned down by Ajax.

This information has also been backed up by Argentine publication TYC Sport, who claim that the Eredivisie giants are keen to hang on to the centre-back.

However, the publication adds that Mikel Arteta’s men are expected to return with an improved offer for Martinez.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Martinez is likely to be anywhere near the top of Conte’s and Paratici’s wishlist. If a deal for Alessandro Bastoni proves unfeasible this summer, I fully expect Spurs to turn their attention to Pau Torres, with Paratici having tried to sign the Villarreal defender last summer as well.
