The Athletic’s David Ornstein has revealed that Arsenal are hopeful of winning the race for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.
Tielemans has just 12 months left to run on his contract at the King Power Stadium (Transfermarkt) and the midfielder admitted back in March that he is ready to make a step up to a ‘top European club’ (talkSPORT).
There have been some mixed reports over recent months regarding Tottenham’s interest in the Leicester star.
GiveMeSport claimed last month that Tottenham planned to make a move for the 25-year-old in the summer if they qualified for the Champions League.
However, The Telegraph subsequently reported that some at Spurs have reservations regarding a move for the Belgian international.
Ornstein has now said that Tielemans ranks high on Arsenal’s list of targets and the Gunners would ideally like to snap up the midfielder for a fee of around £25m.
The journalist added that preliminary talks have taken place between Arsenal director Edu and the Leicester star, with Mikel Arteta’s men said to be hopeful that the former Monaco man can be persuaded to move to the Emirates.

If Tielemans was really on Conte’s or Paratici’s wishlist, one would expect Spurs to be pushing to sign him. The fact that the Lilywhites seem to be happy to let him go to Arsenal suggests that there are other midfield targets that Conte wants to prioritise ahead of the Belgian.
