Report: Arsenal join Spurs and Chelsea in race for experienced midfielder

According to a report in the print edition of Spanish publication Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), Arsenal have now joined Tottenham in the race for Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic.

Pjanic has not had the expected impact since moving to the Camp Nou 12 months ago, with the midfielder failing to register a single goal or assist for Ronald Koeman’s side last campaign.

It was reported last week that Tottenham’s managing director of football, Fabio Paratici had approached Barcelona about signing the midfielder on loan.

Sport now claim that Spurs and Chelsea were vying for Pjanic’s signature and have now been joined by Arsenal in the race for the Bosnian.

The report reveals that the former Juventus man is keen to leave the Catalan giants and that his agent is ‘working against the clock’ to help him find a new destination.

A return to the Allianz Stadium is said to be the midfielder’s preference but it is explained that Juve have to offload players before they can make an approach for the 31-year-old.

Pjanic’s representatives are thus said to be probing other options, including Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta’s side ready to land the Barca star on loan as long as there is no loan fee involved.

It is also asserted that the La Liga giants are ready to loan the player out since they are keen to cut their wage bill.

Spurs Web Opinion

It does not come as a surprise that the likes of us and Arsenal would be interested when a player of Pjanic’s quality becomes available on loan. Hopefully, Paratici’s relationship with the Bosnian from their time together at Juve would give Spurs an advantage over their North London rivals in the race for the 31-year-old.
