Report: Arsenal lead race for Spurs-linked midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur could face stiff competition from Arsenal this summer to land AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report claims that the Gunners are considered frontrunners to land the Ivorian international.

Kessie is out of contract at the San Siro at the end of next season with the 24-year-old wanting the Serie A giants to triple his salary to €6 million-a-year (£5 million) if he is to remain at the club.

Talks between both parties are said to have stalled with Kessie valued at £42million, but would be able to sign a pre-contract agreement in January ahead of walking away as a free agent.

Kessie’s agent Massimo Brambati had previously claimed that Tottenham are among the clubs keen to sign him along with another un-named Premier League team (Tuttomercatoweb).

He is set to miss the start of pre-season with the Rossoneri after being named in the Ivory Coast squad for the Olympics in Tokyo with their first match scheduled for July 22nd and could be unavailable until at least August 7th if they make it to the final.

Kessie is a brilliant midfielder, however his involvement in the Olympics would certainly be seen as a negative considering Spurs’ first Premier League match takes place on August 15th with the visit of Manchester City.
