Report: Arsenal linked with shock bid for Tottenham star this summer

Tottenham Hotspur defender, Toby Alderweireld, has just one year left on his current contract in North London.

This came after Tottenham decided to extend his deal by an extra year back in early 2019, which also triggered a clause in his contract that could see him leave for just £25m this summer (Guardian).

The Belgian star is still regarded as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League, along with his teammate Jan Vertonghen.

Alderweireld was linked with Manchester United for some time (Express), but Arsenal have now emerged as shock contenders to steal the centre-back (Express).

Spurs fans still have bad memories of a certain ex-defender moving from Lilywhite to Red and it would certainly be a career-defining move for Toby, not necessarily in a good way.

The Gunners are said to be keen as they are looking to both sure up their defence without spending too much money, due to their low budget this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Not in a million years. Here are just a few reasons. Tottenham would not allow it. Alderweireld would not want the abuse from fans. It would be a step down for Toby. Arsenal have no Champions League football. Just no.
