Report: Arsenal looking to beat Spurs to land Bundesliga star

According to German news outlet report in Bild (as relayed by The Daily Express), Arsenal are looking to beat Tottenham to the signature of RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer.

Sabitzer has been a long-term target for Tottenham, having been heavily linked with a move to the club during the January transfer window.

It was reported back in April that Tottenham were already laying the groundwork for a summer deal for Sabitzer and Alasdair Gold backed the North Londoners to compete for the Austrian international’s signature.

However, if Bild are to be believed, Arsenal could now make a move for the 27-year-old ahead of their North London rivals.

Mikel Arteta’s side are said to have identified Sabitzer as the man to fill the void left by the departures of Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard, who will both return to Real Madrid following the end of their respective loan speels.

It is suggestedthat the Gunners have been given the green light to sign Sabitzer, who has just twelve months left on his contract with Leipzig, for a fee of just £14.6m.

If Sabitzer really is on Nuno’s and Paratici’s radar, then one would think that we would certainly look to do a deal if he is available for £15m.

However, I suspect the Austrian’s case was very much being pushed by Jose Mourinho and I am not sure if the club will be as keen on the Leipzig star now as they were previously.

A lot will also come down to what Nuno feels whether the likes of Alli and Ndombele could be part of his plans, in which case we might not need another attacking midfielder.
