Report: Arsenal match Spurs offer, player now to decide future

According to a report in RMC Sport, Arsenal have matched Tottenham’s bid for Saint-Etienne centre half William Saliba.

The report claims that the decision of where Saliba moves to is now primarily up to the player himself.

It is also suggested that the Ligue 1 club might try to take advantage of the two club’s interest to potentially attempt to spark a bidding war for the young defender.

The Gunners were said to be close to securing a 30m euro (£27m) deal for the 18-year-old before Tottenham revived their interest in the teenager in him (BBC Sport).

The report from RMC Sport now suggests that Arsenal have now equalled that of their North London rivals.

Saint-Etienne president Roland Romeyer has also hinted that developments are expected in the deal before the transfer window closes in England (But Football Club).

The Sun reported earlier that Saint-Etienne want the teenager loaned back to them for next season but The Express report that Spurs want Saliba to go straight into the first team in the event that Toby Alderweireld departs the club this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

If there is a straight choice between Tottenham and Arsenal for the player then the Lilywhites definitely hold the upper hand given the pull of Pochettino and the fact that they have Champions League football to look forward to yet again.

If Tottenham are pursuing this deal though, then that suggests that we have probably seen the last of Alderweireld in a Spurs shirt.
