Report: Arsenal overtake Spurs in race for talented midfielder

Reports over the past few weeks have claimed that Spurs have been negotiating with Real Madrid to sign midfielder Dani Ceballos on a loan deal (Sky Sports).

The 22-year-old found playing time hard to come by under Zinedine Zidane last season but was one of the stars of the show for Spain in their victorious Euro U-21 Championship this summer.

Ceballos, who is said to be attracting interest from a lot of big clubs from across Europe, revealed in an interview a few weeks ago that while he is open to staying at the Spanish capital, he does need a guarantee of game time (Marca).

Now, a report in Marca claims that Tottenham’s North London rivals, Arsenal have stolen a march on the Lilywhites and are now leading the race for the Spanish international.

The report claims that the midfielder is still on holiday and that he might not report back at Madrid for pre-season this summer.

Ceballos is extremely talented and would be an excellent addition to the Spurs squad. However, unless the loan deal comes with an option to buy at the end of the season, it wouldn’t make too much sense for the Lilywhites to pursue this deal.
