Report: Arsenal plotting move for 16-year-old nephew of former Spurs captain

According to a report in the Sun, Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Scunthorpe United central midfielder Joey Dawson, who is the son of former Hull City defender Andy Dawson and nephew of former Spurs captain Michael Dawson.

Michael Dawson went on to make over 300 appearances in the nine and a half years he spent at Tottenham, scoring ten goals (Wikipedia).

His nephew Joey has now made history by becoming the youngest player in Scunthorpe’s history when he came on from the bench against Derby County aged just 16 years and 75 days old (the Mirror).

While Joey is yet to start a league game for Scunthorpe, it looks like it will only be a matter of time before he breaks into the team.

It is now suggested that Spurs’ North London rivals, Arsenal are tracking the highly-rated young midfielder closely and are considering making a move for him. It is claimed that the Gunners could bid for the teenager in January.

Spurs Web Opinion

While I’ve not seen this kid play, his talent seems to be held in high regard by those who’ve followed his progress. Being from the Dawson family, he will also likely have a good mentality. Perhaps Daws should put in a word with his nephew and convince him to snub Arsenal for Spurs instead.
