Report: Arsenal said to be in negotiations with Spurs-linked midfielder

According to a report by Foot Mercato, Arsenal are currently in discussions with Barcelona over a possible deal for rumoured Spurs target, Ivan Rakitic.

Rakitic is one of a number players who the Catalan giants are ready to sell this summer as they look to bring in the transfer funds needed to pursue their targets ahead of next season (Marca).

Tottenham were previously established as the favourites for the Croatian international’s signature (Mundo Deportivo).

However, Foot Mercato claim that Barcelona are in negotiations with Arsenal over a possible swap deal involving Matteo Guendouzi and Rakitic.

It is suggested that the Catalan giants are keen on acquiring the services of the French midfielder, who has fallen out of favour with Mikel Arteta.

The report alleges that Barcelona first proposed exchanging €50 million (£45.3m) plus Guendouzi for Philippe Coutinho, who has also been linked with a move to Spurs (Football Insider).

However, with the Gunners not impressed with the proposal, it is claimed that Barcelona have offered Rakitic and Arturo Vidal in exchange for Guendouzi.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would not be particularly disappointed if we missed out on either of Rakitic or Vidal as I do not think they would bring what we need in midfield. Jose has made it clear in the past that he is a fan of Rakitic but signing a 32-year-old on big wages does not sound like a particularly attractive deal for the club. I would be surprised if we pursued the Croat this summer.
