Report: Arsenal set to battle Spurs for signature of Spanish international

Tottenham Hotspur could face competition from North London rivals Arsenal if they wish to sign Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos.

A report from Spanish news outlet El Confidencial claims that Unai Emery’s side are looking to fill the void left by Aaron Ramsey after the Welshman left on a free transfer following the conclusion of his contract and joined Italian giants Juventus.

The 22-year-old could be available for as little as £20million (Daily Express) this summer after the playmaker failed to hold down a regular first-team place with Los Blancos this season having only started 19 of 34 games in all competitions and only found the back of the net on three occasions.

Ceballos is under contract at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2023, yet must compete with the likes Marco Asensio, Casemiro, Luka Modric and Tony Kroos for the midfield berth along with anyone else that Zinedine Zidane is likely to recruit before the start of the new campaign.

Spurs are likely to have the upper hand on negotiations should they wish to bring Ceballos to the club given the current circumstance surrounding Christian Eriksen’s desire to play for Real Madrid next season (Ekstra Bladet).

Opinion

The player who has been capped six times by Spain does not offer anything significantly different to what Mauricio Pochettino has at his disposal in midfield. Spurs need to break the bank and recruit the likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Giovano Lo Celso if we are to progress with Poch’s plan.
