Report: Arsenal set to challenge Spurs for 22-year-old

According to a report from Tuttosport, Arsenal are now set to challenge Tottenham in their pursuit of Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiysu.

Spurs are reportedly in the driving seat for Tomiyasu’s signature, with Football.London’s Alasdair Gold claiming the player’s entourage expect him to complete a move to the Lilywhites while Pete O’Rourke also backed Spurs to complete a £15m-£17m deal.

However, over recent days, it has emerged that Tottenham are unlikely to have a straightforward run at the Bologna star.

Leicester City are alleged to be looking to hijack the deal for the Japanese defender as they go about strengthening their backline after injuries to Jonny Evans and Wesley Fofana.

Tuttosport have now revealed that Spurs are also facing competition from their North London rivals, Arsenal.

The report adds that Bologna are hoping to raise €20m (£16.9m) from the 22-year-old’s sale. It is also explained that the Serie A club need those funds to pursue their own transfer targets.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is worrying that we have left this deal drag on for so long when it appeared like a done deal last month. Perhaps Nuno is reconsidering whether he needs Tomiyasu on the back of Tangana’s impressive displays in pre-season.
