Arsenal man puts aside rivalry to name Kane in top two Premier League players

Eddie Nketiah has put aside North London rivalry to admit his admiration for Tottenham star, Harry Kane.

Kane has been in incredible form since Antonio Conte joined the club, racking up fifteen Premier League goal contributions in 2022 alone (TransferMarkt).

England under-21 international, Nketiah, has largely played a backup role in Arsenal’s squad this season, with his contract due to expire at the end of the season (TransferMarkt).

However, when asked who he thought the best player in the Premier League was Nketiah could not help but mention the Lillywhites’ number 10 (The Beautiful Game Podcast – 19/04/22).

He said: “Kevin De Bruyne, he’s a joke I would say. I like Harry Kane as well to be fair, what he’s doing at the moment is crazy, Kevin De Bruyne though, some of the passes that you see, you just dream of getting on the end of them”

Naturally, for a player to complement another on the other side of a fierce rivalry is rare, but to name him in the top two players in the best league in the world is quite something.

Spursweb’s opinion

Clearly, the evolution of Harry Kane to be able to perform both the traditional ‘number 10’ and ‘number 9’ roles to such a high standard is attracting compliments from all in the world of football.

The fact that transcends the North London Derby rivalry in this case, lays bare just quite how remarkable he has been under Antonio Conte.

Nketiah’s contract situation may have led to him perhaps being less afraid of any ramifications from Arsenal fans, as it looks likely he will leave the Gunners at the season’s end, nevertheless, it seems this was said more out of sheer respect for Kane, rather than waning respect for the club Nketiah joined as a 16-year old.
