Report: Arsenal take ‘first steps’ towards signing striker wanted by Conte at Spurs

According to the print edition of Il Giorno (as relayed by FC Inter 1908), Arsenal are among the clubs who have expressed interest in a summer deal for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Inter Live reported last week that Spurs are set to pursue Martinez when the transfer window reopens in the summer while TuttoMercatoWeb added that Antonio Conte was keen on reuniting with the Inter star at Spurs.

Spanish publication Sport claimed a few days ago that Barcelona were eyeing the Argentine international as a back up to Erling Haaland and the Nerrauzri would be open to selling the forward for around €70m (£58.4m).

This has now been backed up by Il Giorno, who suggest that Inter are open to cashing in on Martinez in order to fund moves for their transfer targets in the summer.

The report adds that Barcelona are on the 24-year-old’s trail and that Arsenal and Manchester United have also ‘taken their first steps’ towards the player’s signing.

Spurs Web Opinion

Conte would still have to be at Spurs in the summer for the North Londoners to have a chance of attracting Martinez. That looks far from certain at the moment.

If Kane does leave in the summer, then the Inter star will likely be at the top of Paratici’s wishlist to replace the England captain.
