Report: Arsenal throw in the towel in their efforts to sign rumoured Spurs target

Arsenal have decided to end their interest in Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, according to Le10 Sport.

The Gunners had already tabled an offer of below €20m (£17.1m) while the Ligue 1 outfit value him between €20m (£17.1m) and €25m (£21.4m) and are not prepared to submit an improved bid.

The report claims that Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham are all keen on the 23-year-old, with the North Londoners expected to submit an offer shortly.

Liverpool are considering Aouar to bolster their midfield options after Georginio Wijnaldum left for Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer, while United have earmarked the central midfielder as a replacement should Paul Pogba depart.

Aouar has two years remaining on his Lyon contract, with ESPN claiming that the French outfit are prepared to sell him this summer.

Tottenham’s midfield options need a significant overhaul this summer. Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks both have proven that they do not bring enough to the side in order to positively impact a match.

Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele are two players that Spurs have failed to replace following their respective departures, Fabio Paratici has his work cut out to be able to find two players of similar quality.
