Should Tottenham re-sign Marcus Edwards this summer?

Several outlets over recent weeks have talked up the chances of Spurs making a move to re-sign Edwards, who has developed into one of the most exciting attackers in Portuguese football since leaving the North London club back in 2019.

This includes an update by Correio da Manha (as relayed by Sport Witness) earlier this month, which claimed that Spurs had expressed an interest in re-signing the player, who is thought to be open to returning to his former stomping ground.

Tottenham’s interest in the player was subsequently backed up by A Bola, who suggested that Lilywhites could face competition from West Ham for the Sporting player.

The report stated that the Portuguese club are willing to accept an offer of around €20m (£17m) for the winger, which means that Spurs would be able to sign him for around £11m due to their 30 per cent sell-on clause.

Arsenal are also interested in Marcus Edwards

O Jogo have now become the latest outlet to report on Tottenham’s interest in re-signing Edwards but they say that the winger is also of interest to Mikel Arteta’s side ahead of the summer transfer window.

The publication adds that the Englishman has ‘never hidden’ his desire to return to the Premier League, with a move being on the cards this summer.

Edwards’ lack of consistency is said to have become a source of frustration for head coach Ruben Amorim and dropped down the pecking order in his side last season.

The winger found the back of the net against the Gunners in a Europa League fixture at the Emirates back in 2019 while playing for Vitoria.

I would think that Edwards’ soft spot for Spurs would hand the Lilywhites an advantage in the race over West Ham and Arsenal.

The winger would also have a better chance of starting matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium than he would at the Emirates.
