Report: Aston Villa are keen on beating Spurs to 21-year-old winger

GiveMeSport have claimed that Aston Villa have set their sights on Athletic Club Bilbao winger Nico Williams, who has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Williams has been thought of very highly for many years and the youngster appears to have come of age this campaign, having managed seven goals and 14 assists so far (Transfermarkt).

The 21-year-old is said to have a release clause of €50m (£42.8m) and it has been widely reported over recent weeks that Tottenham are keeping a close eye on the youngster (The Telegraph).

Aston Villa enter race with Spurs for Nico Williams

GiveMeSport have now explained that Unai Emery wants to strengthen his forward line this summer and is looking towards Spain for potential reinforcements.

The report says that he has set his sights on Willaims as well as Villarreal’s Alex Baena, with the Villans set to be keen to prise them away from their respective clubs.

Interestingly, the outlet adds that the Midlands side could cash in on Jacob Ramsey to fund moves for the Spanish duo. It was reported during the January transfer window that Spurs had expressed their admiration for Ramsey (The Athletic).

Spurs Web Opinion

Even though Villa look likely to get into the Champions League, we should be able to outbid them for Williams and I would argue that our pulling power remains greater.

However, the Emery factor can give them the upper hand, with the 21-year-old potentially feeling more secure playing under his fellow countryman.
