Report: Aston Villa enter race for midfielder Spurs are ‘weighing up’ bid for

According to a report from The Sun, Aston Villa have entered the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur target, Weston McKennie ahead of the January transfer window.

McKennie was linked with a move to Tottenham over the summer, with sources alleging that Fabio Paratici was keen on bringing the midfielder to North London.

The Lilywhites reportedly even offered Tanguy Ndombele to Juventus in a potential swap deal for the USA international but a deal did not materialise.

Spurs have been backed to reignite their interest in the Juventus star when the transfer window reopens in January, with recent reports from Italy suggesting that the Old Lady are ready to cash in on the midfielder.

The Sun have now backed up that claim, revealing that Juve are willing to sell McKennie for a fee in the region of £25m when the transfer window reopens.

It is suggested that the Serie A giants are also open to the prospect of an initial loan deal in January provided there is an obligation to buy.

The report explains that Spurs and West Ham are both ‘weighing up’ January offers for the American but now have competition to contend with from Villa for his signature.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would not be displeased if West Ham or Villa snap up McKennie as I am not convinced that the 23-year-old would improve our starting lineup.

While I do think we need additions in central midfielder, we ideally need to be going for a Kessie type of player. I would rather see Nuno persisting with Alli or Ndombele rather than signing McKennie.
