Report: Aston Villa enter race for wing-back linked with Spurs and Chelsea

InterLive have revealed that Aston Villa have now entered the race to sign rumoured Tottenham target Denzel Dumfries.

Reports over the last few days have revealed that Pedro Porro is Tottenham’s top target for the right wing-back role but the Lilywhites’ negotiations with Sporting have seemingly hit a deadlock, with the Portuguese club demanding that the player’s £40m release clause be met (AS).

Gazzetta revealed earlier this week that Dumfries is Tottenham’s alternative to Porro, with both Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte said to like the Inter star ‘a lot’.

The report added that it would take a bid of around €60m (£52.7m) to bring the Nerazzurri to the negotiating table for the Dutchman.

InterLive have now made it clear that Dumfries looks set to be bound for the Premier League this month, with multiple clubs expressing interest in the player.

The report alleges that while Inter want €60m (£52.7m) for the 26-year-old, a deal could be struck for around €50m (£44.1m).

Villa are said to have entered the race for the former PSV Eindhoven, with Unai Emery thought to be on the lookout for Ashley Young’s replacement.

InterLive do not make any mention of Tottenham in their report but they state that Chelsea and Manchester United remain on Dumfries’ trail.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the reports emanating from Italy and Portugal over the last few days, it appears as if Tottenham have shifted their full attention on Porro, thus allowing the likes of Man Utd and Chelsea to battle it out for Dumfries.

However, it looks like the negotiations for Porro could stretch until the final few days of the transfer window, with Sporting seemingly not willing to soften their stance regarding the 23-year-old’s release clause.
