Report: Aston Villa have moved into pole position ahead of Spurs for winger

The Independent have revealed that Aston Villa are now the favourites to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signature of Leicester winger Harvey Barnes.

Tottenham’s interest in Harvey Barnes was reported last month when Football Insider claimed the North London club and Newcastle were both eyeing a summer move for the winger.

The Daily Mail subsequently revealed two weeks ago that Spurs could face competition for the Leicester star from Villa, with the Midlands side said to be ‘watching developments closely’.

If The Independent’s latest update is to be believed, Villa have now moved into pole position to snap up the England international.

The publication states that Unai Emery’s side could face ‘considerable competition’ for Barnes, not least from Spurs, but as things stand, Villa Park is seen as the likeliest destination for the 25-year-old.

It is explained that the Foxes’ asking price for the winger will be significantly affected by whether they stay up or go down, with rival clubs said to be aware of their need to raise funds this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

We are not likely to finalise our plans for the summer transfer window until a new head coach arrives through the door.

So, the longer we delay the appointment, the more we risk losing ground to our rivals on players such as Maddison, Barnes, Ward-Prowse, and Raya, who are seemingly on the market.
